Be spontaneous. Sometimes, unplanned trips come to fruition. We were supposed to go and see the mystical hills of Hinakpan in Isabela, but due to the closed borders, we have to shift our gears and tread the cities and municipalities in the northern part of Negros.

BCD to DSB to San Carlos to Calatrava to Toboso to Sagay to Escalante to Cadiz to Manapla to Victorias to Silay to Talisay and back to BCD.

When you are so ready to meet the NPAs when worst comes to worst. Good thing, we have Renier and Joan, our Mr. Waze and Dora the Explorer, to make this very abrupt and spur of the moment road trip a breeze. Never had I checked Waze or Google Maps to where we were at the moment coz they knew every roads and cul de sacs like the back of their hands.

Eat. Jump. Swim.

What stood out for me was the lunch over the bamboo stilts of NayTay’s Place in Lemery, Caltrava. They serve an array of seafood dishes— shrimps, squid, fish, scallops... and many more. Unfortunately, no oysters and crabs while we were there.

While they prepared the food and waiting for it to be served, we decided to take a plunge as the waters were so inviting. No clothes for swimming, no problem. Jump now, worry later was the motto at that very moment.

We get to enjoy our lunch by the sea under the shades of these mangroves. It was a fun experience and little did I know that there’s a paradise hidden in the heart of Calatrava. For sure, there’s more to explore in this little island of Negros and we’re so ready to check them out of pur bucket list.

We did a sidetrip to the Monkey Sanctuary which is not that far from NayTay’s Place. I believe it’s already in Toboso. Be sure to drop by and donate to make sure that these monkeys are being taken care of and become a tourist attraction when they increase their numbers (they’re about 20 as of now).

Budget (P700/head). San ka pa! Busog yarn?!
