How far can your P1,000 go?

Lakawon Island has been a hidden secret getaway even for me growing up in the same island, the bigger island which is Negros, for 23 years. Not until it has been developed and up to now, still undergoing some improvements especially with their accommodations.

My first impression of the island is that it's hard to reach and a little expensive, especially that they pride themselves having the biggest floating bar in Asia. Having these two elements gave me, even more, the eagerness to be the first to share my experience about this majestic island.

The island is just 1 to 1 and a half hour away from Bacolod City. It's in the south of the Negros Island and can be reached from riding a bus for an hour, tricycle for 10 minutes, and an outrigger boat (bangka) for another 15 minutes. Once you ride the bus, just mention to the driver or conductor that you're heading to Lakawon and they know where to exactly drop you.

You will have an option to do a day tour or to stay overnight. Also, you can bring your own food which goes with P50 corkage fee. We only did day tour as I have booked ahead my accommodation in the city. We rented an Umbrella Hut (native hut) for P600 for the whole day. We definitely need a shade from the scorching heat of the sun or if the rain will ruin or summer getaway.

Once settled and you're still fresh from flying all the way from Manila without sleep, take as many photos first before you enjoy the water and whatever activities you wish to do. If you had joined me in my travels before, especially if it's on the beach, expect several outfit changes from me. lol

I was not able to inform my high school besties that I was there for a photoshoot. lol. But then again, they will not let me win and came as prepared as me.

The floating bar named Tawhai (means Relaxed or Relaxing) has a separate entrance fee of P250. You are allowed to swim at your own risk and food and beverages in the bar are charged separately from the entrance fee.

The entrance if is so much worth it and you'll love to just lie down in their day beds loving the indirect sunlight beaming from the canopies and the ocean breeze that cradles you to sleep. To visualize what I am trying to say, feast with my photos of every corner of the floating bar.

Battle of the sunglasses with my besties; Edralyn and Erlita.

But wait there's more... The island is so picturesque and I can't stop myself changing from one outfit to another. We went here on a Friday and the visitors are not as many during Saturdays and Sundays.

Aside from the floating bar, the construction of the Dock Bar is still undergoing. It's above the water and linked with a long bridge from the shore. Me below standing under the bridge. My only concern with all these developments is that the management should always consider the protection of the environment and no underwater ecosystem has been destroyed.

So far, I've seen that there are no corals and just sand underwater where the constructions have been built.

Expenses:

Ceres Bus from North Bus Terminal: P100 per way - P200
Tricycle - P20 per head per way or 120 per way if you rent it privately - P40
Entrance Fee + Boat Transfer (two way) - P280
Umbrella Hut (native hut) - P600
Tawhai Floating Bar - P250
Lunch (3 dishes, 6 cups rice, 1.5L Coke) - P1,000
Total - P1,320 per head for 3 pax

You can definitely lower down the cost if you're 4 to 5 in a group. If you have questions, feel free to leave comments below or reach out to me on my Instagram, @mistershaunverse
